We deliberately ensure that our production takes place within Europe as much as possible in order to limit transport and, as a result, CO2 emissions. We expect to achieve a reduction in our CO2 emissions by 2012, as we are currently hard at work relocating more of our production to Europe. Part of this decision is based on the important fact that Europe has good social and working conditions, given that the various governments protect worker rights.

For our production outside of Europe, Alchemist looks for partners with a social certification or monitoring system (like f.e. SA8000) whenever possible. In addition, we always visit the factories, with which we collaborate, in order to confirm that they comply with our Code of Conduct (CoC) for suppliers. According to our CoC, the following are prohibited: forced labour, child labour and discrimination of any kind. The CoC also states that a safe and hygienic workplace must be provided and that workers must receive an honest wage, employment contract and the right to join a trade union. Since 2005, Alchemist has been a member of MADE-BY, a non-profit organisation that supports fashion brands in achieving sustainable production methods. MADE-BY publishes scorecards for the affiliated brands every year that show social and environmental performance.
